LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - The City of Laredo plans to move forward with a project that would bring access to a new type of library.

The concept known as the Bibliotec is an all-digital public library, which was first introduced in San Antonio.

The new type of library lends members E-readers and digital content rather than physical media.

The project aims to provide access to newer forms of technology for all members of the community.

Casa Verde Road and the Lozano housing area have both been announced as proposed locations.

Councilwoman Nelly Vielma “They're not going to be at a disadvantaged from other people that might have access to the technology, the resources, the internet. Some of these kids don't have that at home. So this is going to be very impactful. I’m very grateful to the steering community and all the partners in the community. It takes a whole village to educate a child and we are doing our part. And thank you Laredo for welcoming Bibliotec.”

Instructional classes for older adults and young children will also be provided at the facilities.
