Border Patrol agents rescue two dozen illegal immigrants during smuggling attempt

FREER, TX (KGNS) - Border Patrol agents rescued two dozen illegal immigrants from a box truck during an alleged human smuggling attempt.

According to Border Patrol, the incident happened at the checkpoint on Highway 59 when a K-9 alerted to the presence of concealed humans.

When the driver of the box truck was referred to secondary inspection he drove off and tried to flee the area.

Agents pursued the driver for two miles before he came to a complete stop.

When agents searched the cargo area they found 24 illegal immigrants inside the trailer that was recorded at 100 degrees.

Agents say the immigrants were determined to be in good health.
