LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Border Patrol agents of the Laredo Sector seized nearly half a million dollars’ worth of marijuana hidden inside a vehicle at an area checkpoint.
According to Border Patrol, the incident happened on August 7th at the Freer checkpoint when agents encountered a 1999 tan F250 at the primary inspection lane.
During inspection, a canine alerted to the presence of concealed narcotics and the driver was referred to secondary inspection.
When agents searched the cargo area of the truck, they found 22 bundles of marijuana inside.
The marijuana weighed approximately 558 pounds and had an estimated street value of $446,880.
The driver was arrested and the vehicle was seized by Border Patrol.
Laredo Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens says, “Our checkpoints serve as a tool to mitigate the flow of narcotics and prevent illicit drugs from reaching our children. Events like this demonstrate how the men and women of the United States Border Patrol are committed to combating these transnational criminal organizations,”
The marijuana was turned over to the DEA.
