Parents of victim speak about their daughter
The parents of a young woman killed last week in Rio Bravo, after illegally crossing the border are speaking about their loss.
The woman killed was 20-year old Claudia Patricia Gomez Gonzalez from Guatemala.
She was with a group of undocumented immigrants in a stash house in Rio Bravo when the agent discovered them. Gomez was shot by a border patrol agent -- and died at the scene.
The young woman's parents say they want justice for their daughter. We're told she was also coming to the United States to reunite with her boyfriend, who is living in the US.
A press conference by border patrol that was to provide new information on what may have happened in Rio Bravo leading up to an agent involved shooting is canceled, just before it was scheduled to take place.
Today the Webb County medical examiner identified the woman killed as 20-year old Claudia Patricia Gomez Gonzalez from Guatemala.
She was with a group of undocumented immigrants in a stash house in Rio Bravo when the agent discovered them.
Federal agents were out at the scene of the incident today with the three other immigrants that were detained trying to reconstruct the incident.
According to border patrol, the agent who is a 15-year veteran of the agency was assaulted by members of the group after they ignored commands to get to the ground.
Officials with the Guatemalan consulates office are in Laredo helping with the identification process and the investigation.
Claudia Gomez was allegedly on her way to reunite with her husband who is living here in the United States.
For now federal officials say that the incident remains under investigation by both the FBI and the Texas Rangers.
Residents in Rio Bravo are still processing the Border Patrol involved shooting that they witnessed on Wednesday afternoon.
Marta Martinez who was able to record the aftermath of the shooting on social media says that seeing people cross the river is a very common occurrence.
According to Martinez, what is uncommon is the use of guns by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers.
The incident happened after an agent responded to reports of illegal activity going on near a culvert by Centeno Lane.
When he arrived at the scene he found a group of undocumented immigrants.
According to Border Patrol officials, the agent attempted to arrest the group and was allegedly attacked by multiple people using blunt objects.
Martinez says, “Yeah they come here to the United States to live the American dream. So there's no American dream right there. She died right there on the scene.”
We were able to confirm that the officer involved in the shooting has already sought legal representation.
Border Patrol has not said if the officer will be suspended during the investigation.
Officials say they have scheduled a press conference for Friday.
A woman is dead after Border Patrol officials were responding to illegal activity in Rio Bravo
The incident happened around noon where according to Border Patrol, an agent responded to a report of illegal activity going on at a culvert by Centeno Lane.
When agents searched the area they found a group of illegal immigrants.
Initial reports indicate that the agent attempted to arrest the group, but he came under attack by multiple people using blunt objects.
The agent fired at least one round from his service weapon, shooting and killing one of those who was allegedly attacking him.
The rest of the group fled the scene.
Three illegal immigrants who were involved in the incident were arrested.
The incident is under investigation by the FBI and the Texas Rangers.
The FBI is investigating an incident that left a woman dead in Rio Bravo.
The incident happened on Wednesday at around 1 p.m. at Centeno Lane in Rio Bravo.
Details are light, but witnesses say a Border Patrol agent allegedly shot a woman.
Officials with Border Patrol have confirmed that one of its agents did use a service weapon during the incident.
During the commotion, multiple agencies arrived at the scene to assist with the investigation.
