(NBC) - A Build-a-Bear sale has prompted chaos and closures for hundreds of stores all across the nation.
Build-a-Bear at St Louis Mall
Earlier this weekend Build-a-Bear announced its “Pay Your Age Day” promotion where customers can purchase a bear for the price of their own age.
On Thursday the sale started at malls all across the U.S. and Canada.
Lines wrapping around stores and shopping centers everywhere from Houston to Miami, with shoppers bearing the hours long wait all for the chance to pick up a bear for the price of their age.
Some lines even wrapped around outside of the mall and into the parking lots.
Unfortunately, stores were completely mobbed by crowds and the company had to start turning away customers.
Frustrated parents took to social media to vent about their experience saying, "Making kids have to attend and being turned away at the door is disgusting."
Build a Bear issued a statement on its official Twitter saying, “Per local authorities, we cannot accept additional Guests at our locations due to crowd safety concerns. We have closed lines in our stores. We understand some guests are disappointed and we will reach out directly as soon as possible. “
The average cost of a regular build a bear can add up to over $100 including accessories.
