LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The Cigarroa High School held its graduation ceremony at the Laredo Energy Arena.
Although many students were excited to move on to the next chapter of their life, they were also mourning the loss of two fellow students who lost their lives in a tragic accident.
It was an emotional day for the Cigarroa graduating class of 2018.
Students and teachers demonstrated their love and respect for the young girls through touching speeches, and moments of silence.
The seats where Jocelyn Arredondo and Alexis Isabel Raygoza were supposed to be sitting were decorated in their honor.
Both the Arredondo and the Raygoza families were given seats next to the stage and close to their seats where their daughters were supposed to be in.
Family members of Alexis and Jocelyn were able to walk the stage and accept the girls’ diplomas.
Jocelyn’s brother Jesse Arredondo Jr. says, “Aside of all the negativity, we try, I try to make some positives of it. She was our baby, the way she left was tragic, but I believe that she is in a better place, we all believe that, and so she is. She is looking down on us now, and surely she wouldn’t want us to be sad. So we try to comfort each other and to console each other for the most part.”
The Arredondo family will be having a vigil on Friday at Gamez Funeral home at 8:30 p.m. and is asking anyone who would like to attend to wear white.
