LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - Before any future business growth can continue downtown, a local property owner is asking the city to fix the parking issue.
The American Properties Agency is in the midst of revitalizing the downtown area, but before all of that can take place, they say they need help from the city to solve the parking dilemma.
Over the weekend the parking downtown starts to get full at around eight o’ clock before the night crowd comes in.
American Properties, which acquired many of the commercial properties on Iturbide Street has been calling on City Council to find a solution for the problem before businesses start filling up the blocks.
Laredo Main Street Executive Director Priscilla Iglesias says adding parking meters would be a good step in addressing the issue.
Iglesias says, “Right now they take up the parking because I've known they park here for the rest of the weekend and they'll go to Mexico and they'll come back on Sunday night but they are taking up these spaces."
The city is currently working on getting an outside consultant to study the best solution for the parking issue in order to help not only consumers but businesses as well.
