The community came together over the weekend to mourn the loss of Rebecca Zavala through a candlelight vigil held in her honor.

Relatives, neighbors and other members of the community gathered at the apartment complex where the three-year-old’s remains were found.

Rebecca would have turned three-years-old on Sunday.

Neighbors and relatives say they are still in shock of what happened to the young girl.

Local resident Jorge Dominguez said he never thought anything like this would happen to one of his own relatives.

Those who took part in the vigil placed stuffed animals, flowers and balloons outside of the apartment window in memory of Rebecca.
