County looks to rename road after fallen soldier

LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- A road in south Laredo could soon be renamed after a fallen hero.

Lance Corporal Juan Rodriguez was killed in an explosion while serving in Iraq.

He died January 13, 2005, making him the first soldier from Webb County to be killed during the Iraq War.

His family has since been dedicated to ensuring his name lives on by sponsoring grants and scholarships in his behalf.

County Commissioner Jesse Gonzalez approached Rodriguez’ family with the plan to rename Cuatro Vientos Blvd, to which they gladly accepted.

Commissioner Gonzalez has since been working with the City, County, and TxDOT to get this project started.

Cuatro Vientos Blvd. has not been formally designated by TxDOT and would only require approval from the City and the County for a name change.
