LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- The flu is in full force within our community and has already affected a number of residents.
As school districts welcome back students sources say the flu rate will likely spike once students who are sick start interacting with others.
Both UISD and LISD are taking every step possible to prevent the spread of the virus.
Maintaining a clean environment for students, teachers, and administrators is always the first step towards preventing others from getting the virus.
Encouraging students to get the flu shot is another effort both health service departments are taking towards prevention, as well as asking that parents keep sick students at home.
Over at Laredo ISD, the first day back to school saw several absent students due to the flu.
The district started seeing sick students as early as August. They say they'll continue their efforts to administer flu shots to students who need them.
