Family of man wrongfully accused in Jazmine Barnes' shooting speaks out

HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) - The family of a man whose photo went viral online as a possible suspect in the murder of seven-year-old Jazmine Barnes is telling everyone to “back off”.

Hailey Cantrell says that despite the arrests of two suspects in the case, there have been non-stop threatening comments on her social media page regarding her uncle Robert Cantrell.

Photos of her uncle circulated online last Friday and many people on social media have been harassing Hailey and calling her uncle violent and a racist.

As a white male with blue eyes, Robert Cantrell resembles the police sketch the Harris County Sheriff’s Office released last week.
Hailey says even she was afraid it was him.

The sheriff’s office now believes the sketch is of a witness that Jazmine’s sister remembered and has said all evidence shows the little girl and her family were innocent victims.

Twenty-year-old Eric Black has been charged with capital murder and 24-year-old Larry Woodruffe is in jail on an unrelated charge but is believed to be the shooter.

Hailey says the truth is out and the case has nothing to do with her uncle.
