Update: Two-vehicle accident on Hwy 359 claims the life of one person

LAREDO,Texas(KGNS) - The person who died in the fatal Tuesday night crash on Highway 359 has been identified as a Border Patrol agent.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the victim was identified as 38-year-old Jorge Antonio Ornelas from Mission.

Ornelas was the driver of the Hyundai that was traveling east on Highway 359.

Meanwhile, the driver of a tractor-trailer was traveling on the west side of the highway.

Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the Hyundai drove onto the wrong side of the road and hit the truck.

Due to the impact of the accident, Ornelas was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to a local hospital; no word at this time on his condition.

A section of Highway 359 in Eastern Webb County is closed following an accident that has claimed the life of one person.

The accident happened Tuesday at around 7:30 pm on a stretch of highway between the Border Patrol checkpoint and the town of Bruni.

According to reports the crash involved a tractor-trailer and another unidentified vehicle.

One person is said to have died as a result of the accident.

The eastbound lane was closed. Anyone headed east on Hwy 359 was redirected north on FM-2895 at Aguilares to Highway 59 and then back South on FM-2050 to Bruni.

Law enforcement is on the scene investigating the incident and directing traffic.
