First man-made crystal lagoon opens in Humble, Texas

Residents in Humble, Texas no longer needs to plan a week-long trip to the beach, because there’s a new type of beach right in their community.

The first man-made crystal lagoon is officially open at the Balmoral community right outside of Houston.

The two-acre crystal clear lagoon features a beach, plenty of shade and of course crystal clear water.

Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps announced the grand opening of the site on Thursday afternoon.

Phelps says, “I don't count my laps really now. I just get in and, and swim, so for me, this should, this should be the perfect opportunity to just have a perfect escape to kind of clear my head."

Phelps the Global Ambassador for Crystal Lagoons, a company that prides itself on its environmentally sustainable technology.

Officials say even though it uses a lot of water to fill up, it doesn’t take much to maintain it.

Access to the man-made beach will only be available to homeowners, which will ultimate be made up of 2200 houses.
