Florida woman goes missing while vacationing in Costa Rica

(NBC) - Authorities are investigating the disappearance of a Florida woman who mysteriously vanished during her birthday trip to Costa Rica.

Police in Costa Rica say a body was found on Monday near the Air Bed and Breakfast where 36-year-old Carla Stefaniak was staying.

Stefaniak’s sister in law who had been traveling with her flew home Wednesday one day before Carla was scheduled to.

The two texted each other throughout the day until Stefaniak suddenly stopped responding.

Stefaniak as supposed to come home Thursday, but she never made it to the plane.

Costa Rican authorities say they found stains inside the apartment where she was staying which are believed to be blood stains.

The State Department is working on the case and are awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Bed and Breakfast is no longer listed on the website
The attorney for the property says the owners are cooperating with the investigation and hope when all the facts are known, the perpetrator will be brought to justice.

In the meantime, the owners have temporarily closed their vacation rentals.
