Former city employee charged with theft and tampering with government records

A former city employee is facing charges of theft of property and tampering with government records.

According to Laredo Police, 39-year-old Beatriz Martinez was served with an arrest warrant for theft and tampering with government records.

On Thursday afternoon Martinez turned herself into authorities in response to the arrest warrants and was transported to the Webb County Jail.

According to the criminal case it is alleged that Martinez took money from customer’s residential utility accounts.

Approximately $1,400 was the initial amount discovered in the case.

The investigation was handled by Crimes against Property detectives.
