LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - The Laredo Housing Authority met on Friday to discuss measures to better protect women and others who are potentially in an abusive relationships.
The organization updated its current policy under VAWA or the Violence Against Women Act by providing additional protection for victims of sexual assault and protecting them and their housing.
The act allows them to stay in their housing or be transferred to a different unit in the event of an emergency.
The update is more focused on when it comes to cases of abuse of assault within a living unit.
The Violence Against Women Act went into effect back in 1994 under president Bill Clinton.
