(CNN) - Heavy rain and winds are tearing through the southeast coast as Hurricane Florence Threatens to deliver several inches of rain over the next several days.
The storm has caused power outages, flooding and structural damage to several homes and businesses in North and South Carolina.
Florence made its way onshore at Snail’s Crawl bringing 10 trillion gallons of rainfall.
In the town of New Bern, flooding began almost immediately after the storm hit.
New Bern resident Peggy Perry was stranded with her family in the attic after her house flooded up to her waist in a matter of seconds.
By early Friday morning, more than 100 people who did not heed the warnings to evacuate were rescued from their homes.
According to New Bern Mayor, rescue efforts are still underway for hundreds of residents.
Officials say it’s going to get worse before it starts to get better.
