HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) A Houston family is in mourning after the tragic loss of their six-month-old child.
Houston Police say the incident happened at an apartment complex in west Houston at around 7:20 pm on Tuesday night.
According to police, the boy’s father put the six-month-old in his crib and then put his two-year-old son into a separate bed.
Later that night, the father went to check on the boys and found both of them in the baby’s crib.
Police say that the boy got into the infant’s crib to sleep with his younger brother and somehow, the six-month-old boy was smothered as the two slept.
When emergency responders arrived at the scene, the six-month old was unresponsive.
The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine exactly how the child died, but police say it appears to be a tragic accident caused by the older brother.
Since the child was so young, the medical examiner says it could take longer to determine the official cause of death.
