LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- Representatives with the Rio Grande International Study Center have met with Border Patrol to discuss the cleanup occurring along the border.
After government officials implemented a program to eradicate Carrizo cane along the Rio Grande environmental activist reached out to Border Patrol to express their concerns.
The initial plan was to remove the cane along the border to improve border access and visibility for law enforcement officers.
But now there has been a dramatic return of this invasive species of plant, and environmentalists are looking for a different plan of action.
Environmentalists are hoping Border Patrol will allow the area to return to its previous ecological function and for agents to find alternate forms of operating.
