(CNN) - Comedian Kevin Hart has dropped out as the host for the 2019 Academy Awards.
Hart announced his decision via Twitter on Thursday night.
In the Tweet Hart said he didn't "Want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazingly talented artists."
After he was announced as the host Tuesday, hart came under fire for old homophobic tweets and jokes that recently resurfaced on social media.
In that same Tweet, Hart apologized to the LGBTQ community for "Insensitive words from my past."
The academy of motion picture arts and sciences did not immediately respond to NBC News for comment.
