After-school program teaches students about medicine

LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- Last fall "Little Medical School" went to LISD to pilot an after-school program introducing medical enterprises at an earlier age.

It's well up and running exclusively for now, at four LISD schools for sixth graders only.

Instead of your typical sports or dance classes that students usually attend after school, they're given the opportunity to practice medicine with different types of activities.

This program is based in San Antonio, but native Laredoan Bianca Brewster is pumping fresh blood into the after-school programs. She tells us she is for anything that brings students more opportunities.

The pilot program has 60 participating students at all four middle schools.

Also being offered is nursing, dental, sports medicine, and veterinary programs.

Program coordinators are also looking into expanding into United ISD schools.
