Local activists ask "Where is the national emergency?"

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A new coalition of local organizations and residents came together in front of the Rio Grande River to ask where the national emergency is.

Back in February, President Trump announced his national emergency declaration for the entire southern border as he attempts to collect billions of dollars to construct a border wall.

On Thursday morning, members of the Rio Grande International Study Center along with business owners and landowners spoke about how the wall would affect our community.

Ranch owner Joseph Hein says his family has owned the land on the Webb-Zapata County line for more than 40 years and they have never had an issue with migrants.

Hein says the majority of ranch owners agree that there is no emergency at our borders and therefore, no need for a wall.

The event was the official launch of the “Where is the Emergency Campaign”.
