LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Members of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies took a moment to remember their fellow brothers and sisters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Three years ago, a lone sniper fired upon Dallas Police officers killing five and injuring dozens.
To honor their memories and other law enforcement officers who lost their lives, city and county officials held a special memorial while discussing the sacrifices they endure on a daily basis.
Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar says for officers who protect and serve every day, it can be a high stress situation.
Cuellar says people need to understand that life is not guaranteed and as officers they put their lives in the line of fire.
July 7th is officially proclaimed as "Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Day" by the state legislature.
