LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - For the first time ever, a woman has been promoted to the rank of deputy chief at the Laredo Police Department.
Deputy chief is the highest rank ever achieved by a female officer.
Lieutenant Enedina Martinez was promoted to the position on Monday.
She's a 27 year veteran on the force and comes from the watch commanders division.
Also promoted was Miguel Rodriguez who has worked for the police department for 19 years.
Rodriguez will be taking the role of assistant chief of police.
Rodriguez was recently appointed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott to the Auto Burglary Theft Prevention Executive Board and he heads the real time crime center project in Laredo.
