Local school receives Texas Medal of Arts Award

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A local program received a distinguished award that is only reserved for the top contributors to arts in the State of Texas.

LISD’s Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts has been announced as one of the honorees at the 2019 Texas Medal of Arts Awards.

The Biennial Awards celebrate Texas legends as their slogan says, “Honoring people and organizations who have excelled in the field of arts”.

While VMT officials say that they are thrilled to be named one of this year’s recipients, it’s the rare ground of being honored as an entire school that is really something special.

Past Texas Medal of Arts Winners includes Willie Nelson, Eva Longoria and Scott Pelley.

This year, VMT will share the stage with nine other honorees including Matthew McCaughey.

The awards banquet will be held next Wednesday, February 27th in Austin.
