Man accused of assaulting Laredo Police Officers

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Two Laredo Police officers were injured on Sunday after being attacked by a suspect inside a hospital restroom.

According to police, 23-year-old Tomas Lara was undergoing medical evaluation at LMC when he asked officers to use the lavatory.
After an officer removed Lara’s handcuffs, Lara allegedly punched the officer in the face.

During the commotion, the officer and Lara struggled on the ground where more punches were thrown.

Another officer was injured while they were trying to apprehend Lara.

Eventually, Lara was handcuffed and is now facing two counts of assault on a public servant, one count of resisting arrest and one count of escape causing bodily injury.

Lara remains at the county jail with no bond.
