Marvel scores big with Black Panther
Marvel Comics has done it again!
Tickets have sold out around the country for its newest movie “Black Panther”.
The movie features an African American super hero and a mostly-black cast and helmed by a black director.
The explores themes long underrepresented in Hollywood while also giving fans of the comic book exactly what they have been waiting for.
One of the film’s stars, Winston Duke says the movie represents the cultural change in the film.
Duke says, "I think we're part of a landscape right now where people are calling for recognition. They're asking for more agency in their lives and the narratives that are told about them. They're asking to be represented, and they're asking to be counted. I feel this movie takes a brave step forward into that future that people are calling for."
The Marvel character was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the 1960’s against the backdrop of the civil rights movement.
Black Panther is on pace to be one of Marvel’s biggest blockbuster.
