Matthew McConaughey surprises first responders in Houston

HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) - In honor of National First Responders Day, the Houston Police Department received a surprise visit from a famous Texas actor.

Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey brought lunch to police officers and met with firefighters, 911 dispatchers and the mayor of Houston on Sunday morning.

The event was sponsored by Wild Turkey, which was part of the Wild Turkey Gives Back campaign.

McConaughey said he wanted to acknowledge the heroic men and women who were at the frontlines during Hurricane Harvey.

Mayor Sylvester Turner tweeted out a photo with McConaughey saying that he was honored to welcome him to Houston and thanked him for giving back.
