LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - On Saturday the Laredo Police Department was asking for the community's help to find a missing girl.
According to police, 13-year-old Katheryn Mena went missing from Christen Middle School on Friday. She was last seen leaving with two females.
Throughout the weekend police were working to not only locate her but ensure her safety.
Authorities in Laredo collaborated with authorities in Nuevo Laredo and the FBI to locate Katherine, and she was safely returned to her family in Laredo.
Police say the case status was always listed as a runaway and not as a kidnapping.
Through the course of the investigation, they determined that Katherine was never at risk, and that is why an amber alert was not issued.
They also stated that the 13-year-old did not appear to be under any threat or harm.
