New ordinance could require ethics trainings for elected officials

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A potentially new ordinance could require several different trainings for elected officials holding municipal office.

The move comes as an effort to ensure city officials are familiar with legal, financial and ethical obligations, helping their jobs properly.

Kristina Laurel Hale for the City of Laredo says, when people are elected into office, they may not know the ins and outs of city government. There are a lot of requirements and obligations and duties that are expected as soon as you enter office.

Hale goes on to say that this would help city officials provide more insight.

If approved, the new rules could take effect by the end of the year, making it a requirement to new City Council members.
