LPD releases the identity of the officer who was involved in altercation
The identity of the Laredo Police Officer that was involved in an altercation last month has been released.
According to the Laredo Police Department, Officer Roberto Castillo was responding to a domestic violence call back in March.
Police say Castillo was telling a man to stop assaulting a woman at a home on Pierce Street.
Then the man began to shoot towards the officer.
The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Marco Cruz Jr.
The officer fired back and shot the suspect in the leg.
The officer was also hurt but not from a gunshot related injury.
The officer was taken to the Laredo Medical Center for treatment and was later released.
Meanwhile, the suspect was airlifted to San Antonio for treatment.
Police say the investigation is still ongoing but due to procedures, Officer Castillo will remain on administrative reassignment, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Officer Castillo has been with the Laredo Police Department for 14 years.
