LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The Consulate General of Mexico held a presentation to announce the recipient of this year’s Ohtli award.
This award is presented by the Mexican Government to Mexican citizens working to promoting their culture abroad or giving assistance to other Mexican citizens.
This year’s recipient has worked to open doors and improve the treatment of immigrants through his work at the Holding Institute.
Reverend Michael Smith was presented with this award. We spoke to him about what this honor means to him.
He says,“ I was very surprised pleasantly surprised, very grateful, very proud of this recognition because it means that the community as a whole recognizes your efforts and your work on their behalf and it always feels good to get that recognition.”
Reverend Smith hopes to continue working to improve the lives of immigrants in the community.
