LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A party in South Laredo turns tragic after a shooting that resulted in the death of a young man.
Twenty-year-old Luis Ignacio Contreras' life was cut short Saturday morning at a house party.
Details continue to pour in as Laredo Police piece together what happened that fateful night.
At 2:30 a.m. shots rang out at this home in the 47-hundred block of Sunrise Court.
A neighbor says it was chaos after the shooting, as they witnessed several teens fleeing the crime scene through their property.
When police arrived they found Contreras lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Investigator Joe Baeza states that while the officers were at the location they received a call from a local ambulatory station indicating that there was a male subject with a gunshot wound to the arm.
Detectives met with the teen at the hospital and learned through eyewitness accounts that the teen was, in fact, the shooter.
That same day Laredo Police picked up the teen from San Antonio, brought him back to Laredo, and placed him at the Juvenile Youth Village.
Police say that the 16-year-old shooter has been charged with murder.
Police are still investigating how the 16-year-old got shot in the arm, as well other circumstances surrounding the case.

One man is dead, and another is injured after a shooting in south Laredo over the weekend.
The Laredo Police Department says the shooting happened early Saturday morning.
Police responded to the 4700 blocks of Sunrise Court where they found a 20-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
As officers investigated, a report came in that a 16-year-old minor, had been admitted to a local hospital for being shot in the arm.
Through witness reports, police were able to identify the teen as the alleged shooter.
Reports say an altercation broke out between the victim and teen, and moments later shots rang out.
The 16-yer-old has since been arrested and is being charged with murder.
He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
