LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- A new year can bring new experiences and new opportunities, but it can also remind us of negative events that can affect our mental health.
An event was held by a local organization with the hope of helping our community by educating and informing.
The Mid Rio Grande Border Area Health Education Center, or AHEC, held their first meeting for the Community Conversation on Teen & Young Adult Mental Health. They discussed several methods available to improve mental health in our community.
The event was attended by several people of different ages with one thing in mind, seeking help when things get rough or lonely.
MRGB-AHEC Executive Director, Julie Bazan, tells us there are all kinds of services available at the center and says it's the perfect time to talk about starting a new chapter in life.
Attendees also learned about different signs to look out for when someone is experiencing PTSD or depression.
If you would like to know more about the services AHEC provides, you can contact them at 712-0037.
