City discusses future plans for convention center project

LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- A proposal for the revitalization of downtown by means of a new venue gets a no from voters.

Proposition B has officially been rejected by more than 50-percent of Laredoans who voted.

The proposal would have allowed the City of Laredo to finance a new convention center in the downtown area.

Blasita Lopez, with the City of Laredo, says the voters have spoken, and although the idea was rejected, she adds there are other ways that the downtown area could be revitalized. Saying their next step would be to get together with City Council to discuss future options.

The City of Laredo adds they may revisit the idea of a convention center and come up with a different plan at a later time.
