Local athletes take the plunge for Special Olympics

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - Athletes and students took the plunge into cold water on Friday morning to help raise funds for the Special Olympics.

Many gathered at the city the City of Laredo Parks and Leisure Inner City Pool to dive into some cold water.

The Polar Plunge is a way to bring awareness and raise money to help support more than 2,000 South Texas athletes in the Laredo area.

Awards were presented for individuals who raised the most money.
Volunteer Martha Vasquez says it may be a little nerve-racking but it’s a really great event.
