Ethics Commission votes to close case against Chavez after training completion

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The battle between a local business owner and the city of Laredo could come to a conclusion.

Members of the Ethics Commission who were investigating claims of misconduct made by VMG Rugs and Imports owner Victor Gomez voted to drop the complaint against Public Works Executive Director Ramon Chavez if he completes training approved by the City Attorney's Office.

The complaint stems from an ordeal that took place back in March when Gomez's business was visited by multiple city departments to investigate violations.

The complaint was originally filed against Councilman Alex Perez.
It was revealed in an April City Council meeting that Perez requested Chavez to look into Gomez's business.

VMG Rugs and Imports owner Victor Gomez shared his reaction to the decision saying he feels vindicated and believes the city needs to show business owners respect.

In August, the Ethics Commission cleared Alex Perez of any wrongdoing. Which then lead to the investigation of Chavez's conduct.
