LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A project to revitalize the downtown area could soon help the area see more business.

The Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Number One Board took a tour of several areas downtown to identify several key points that are in need of renovations.

Officials are focusing on trees, the sidewalks, parking spaces as well as other essentials the area needs.

The purpose of the revitalization is to make the downtown area more attractive to tourists while also growing the number of locals that visit downtown.

The board is looking to focus on making the area more walkable from the outlet mall to the San Agustin Plaza as well as Iturbide Street.

A project to be developed will need to be prepared by the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Number One Board before it is presented to City Council for consideration.
