LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Local students put aside the classroom work to learn more about the Rio Grande.
As part of the 9th Annual Research Roundup teams of students spent time at the river to test the water.
The roundup is a bi-national student water testing project that involved thousands of students from the United States and Mexico.
Groups of students from Christian Middle School visited the river to see what they could learn about the local eco-system.
One of the organizers for Thursday’s event was Christian Middle science teacher Marco Lopez who says it's vital to keep track of the river.
The Research Roundup is a month-long project hosted by the Rio Grande International Study Center.
Teams of students from 3 U.S. States and 5 Mexican States compete against each other for the top prize.
