Back in March, the Webb County Sheriff's office purchased multiple high tech surveillance cameras to help secure the border.

Now those cameras have been put into action around the international bridges.

The cameras can run 24 hours a day and can help the sheriff's office easily locate people smuggling drugs, or trying to cross illegally.

Through the Operation Stonegate program, a federal grant meant to strengthen the capabilities of law enforcement agencies on the border, the Sheriff's office was able to purchase the cameras to help increase the eyes on the Rio Grande.

The Sheriff's office currently has around 10 cameras in use on the border.
