LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A local health center is looking to host an event that aims to raise awareness on suicide and discuss ways it can be prevented.
According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, suicide is the 10th leading cause of the death in the U.S.
Experts say approximately 55,000 Americans take their own lives each year.
The Border Region Behavioral Health Center is looking to reduce these numbers by creating awareness.
Border Region will be hosting a suicide prevention walk to remember those who have lost a loved one to suicide and also inform the community about the many resources that are available to them.
Along with the walk, the event will feature a yoga and Zumba session, live entertainment and a car show.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 22nd at the Border Region Behavioral Health Center located at 1500 Pappas Street.
Registration will start at 7 a.m. and the walk will start at 8 a.m.
