Teachers head to Austin for education reform

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Local teachers and advocates made a trek to Austin to demand the state fund public education.

On Tuesday morning, 40 people and educational support professionals boarded a bus to rally on the southern steps of the capital to voice their opinions on what needs to be done.

Laredo United, which is part of the Texas State Teacher’s Association organized the trip.

The group met with Representative Richard Pena Raymond to discuss some important issues regarding pay raises and the STAAR Test.

Representative Pena Raymond says both topics are equally important to him as well.

Raymond says the legislature is currently debating teacher salaries, changes to the system and providing more universal Pre-k.
