Texas commissioners approve resolution against separating families

HIDALGO COUNTY, TX (KGBT) - A group of leaders in a Texas community are letting lawmakers know that they are against separated undocumented parents from their children.

All four Hidalgo County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution opposing the new Department of Homeland Security Policy on Monday.

The Trump Administration decided last month to refer every person caught crossing the border illegally for federal prosecution.

This means that more parents are possibly being separated from their children at the border; as a result, commissioners are calling for a different solution.

Hidalgo County Commissioner Precinct Four Joseph Palacios says, "We have to find a better humane process how to deal with the problem. And that's what we're urging is if there's way to deal with this issue then there has to be more of a humanitarian response of how they're dealing with it and separating families is not it, it's something we're against."

The commissioners plan to create a task force to communicate with the state and federal legislatures to demand better solutions to the immigration crisis.
