Update: Three people injured in vehicle collision in Zapata County

Authorities are releasing more details on a major vehicle accident that happened in Zapata County last weekend.

The incident happened on Sunday, December 1st at around 11:43 a.m. in Zapata at US Highway 83 and 24th Ave.

According to preliminary reports, a Ford F-250 was traveling on the northbound lane of Highway 83 at a high rate speed.

During that time, a Hyundai Entourage was exiting from El Jarocho restaurant in an attempt to exit the parking lot.

Due to the Ford’s speed, the Hyundai was struck and sustained major damage to its left side.

A total of three people were taken to the hospital via ambulance.

Multiple agencies assisted with the crash including the Zapata County Sheriff's Office, Zapata County Fire Department, Zapata County Constable's Office PCT. 2, Texas Game Wardens, US Border Patrol, and the Texas Department of Highway Patrol.

There is currently an ongoing investigation as to why the Ford was speeding.
