Two former Major League Baseball Players killed in car accident in Venezuela

HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) - Two former Major League Baseball players are killed after a car accident in Venezuela on Thursday night.

According to KTRK, 33-year-old Luis Valbuena and 37 Jose Castillo were involved in a fatal vehicle accident after playing a game in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.

Authorities say their car went to the opposite side of the road while trying to avoid a sliding rock.

The players were on their way to Barquisimeto where they were scheduled to play against Bravos de Margarita on Friday.

Valbuena played 11 seasons in the majors, including his final two with the Los Angeles Angels who released him in August. He also played with the Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians.

Castillo played in the majors from 2004 to 2008 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, San Francisco Giants and Astros.

Police are still investigating the accident.
