LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A local emergency room had their work cut out for them when a person walked in, helping a young man with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The incident led police to a house in the 4800 block of Samlon Court where officers found more than they bargained for.
Shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, the LMC emergency room alerted police about a 19-year-old with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The man was in critical condition and in need of emergency surgery.
Doctors were able to give him adequate treatment and he is currently listed as stable.
The 19-year-old is expected to survive; however he was found to be an undocumented immigrant.
Police were able to track down where he was from which is when they found several undocumented immigrants that were being kept at a stash house for several days.
Joe Baeza with the Laredo Police Department says, “For right now, we also involved immigration authorities in relationship to this case in regards to bringing in the person who was under control of the house. He was taken in by immigration authorities because of the smuggling of persons charge that he's got pending right now.”
That was not the only incident tied to the case.
On Tuesday night around 10 p.m. another undocumented immigrant from the same house was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm, which he sustained earlier in the day in the same shooting incident.
The 28-year-old man is currently in stable condition.
Sources close to the investigation say the two men who were inured are determined to be from El Salvador and India.
Police say the two incidents are still being investigated.
