LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - The State Department has issued a health alert for the entire State of Texas over the rising of typhus.

The latest alert says the state experts to have more than 400 cases of typhus by the end of the year.

In the City of Laredo, health officials have also seen an increase.

According to Doctor Hector Gonzalez with the Laredo Health Department, in the last 10 years, Laredo has seen one or two cases in 2017 alone.
The disease is spread through fleas.

The best way to prevent typhus is to keep your yard clean and protect your pets from ticks and fleas.
