LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- In the upcoming legislative session, there's a bill that looks to bring out younger voters by making changes to voter registration laws.
Senator Judith Zaffirini is sponsoring a bill that will lower the voter registration age to 17 if the voter turns 18 by the time the general election comes along.
Jesus Ochoa with Move Texas says it's the organization's mission to educate young people about the importance of voting.
Since he meets with them every day, he says he's confident that if this bill passes it will create change.
In the bill, a 17-year-old is eligible to vote in the primary election in order to pick a political party nominee for the general election.
Currently, voters have to be 18 or older in order to vote.
When they register to vote they must 17 years and 10 months.
