LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- President Trump visited the South Texas border to discuss the border wall.
In light of his visit members of the community who are against the wall rallied together to petition local, state, and federal elected officials to not support any money towards this.
Congress is set to vote on a new bill that could include money for President Trump's campaign staple.
Organizations like Move Texas, the Laredo Immigrant Alliance, and the Rio Grande International Study Center came together to reveal a petition they are encouraging elected officials like Mayor Pete Saenz and Congressman Henry Cuellar to sign.
Rio Grande International Study Center representatives spoke with the public about the environmental impact of this wall. RGISC Board President Melissa Ochoa hopes the administration will take notice of how this will ecologically affect border communities.
At the end of the rally, everyone in attendance signed their name on the petition.
