LAREDO,Texas(KGNS)- The City of Laredo is bracing for a huge influx of traffic as paisanos begin their yearly trek to the border for the holiday season.
As part of a press conference, plans were announced for an operation aimed at welcoming paisanos to the Gateway City.
Paisanos are Mexican Nationals living in the United States who travel home to Mexico for the holidays.
Each year thousands of people make their way through Laredo in the weeks surrounding Christmas and the new year.
One of this years plans by TxDOT and the city is to add a rest stop along I-35 where travelers can stop to stretch grab some refreshments and make sure their paperwork is in order before arriving at the international bridges.
It's an effort that's meant to make the trip smoother for travelers and locals alike.
That rest stop will open on Thursday, December 20th at 6 pm and close at 8 am on Sunday, December 23rd.
It will be located just of mile marker 13 on I-35 southbound.
